    Re: paint colors

I was able to purchase a complete set of GM 69 DuPont original color chips from www.vintage-books.com It was 3 pages at about $5.00 a page.

They have a web site listing all the original used paint chip book pages they have for sale. You can browse the inventory and probably find what you need there. You can usualy just buy the one page you need. The way they list them is a bit confusing so you will need to look under several headings to see all the chips that will work. Look under chevrolet as well as GM and several places that segregate by the production year to see the whole inventory. Great service and packing to prevent damage.

            Use the blend code....

Our 'mates' in the UK Chapter have no problem sourcing 'original' paint AND what they get when ordering by original GM/supplier blend code is thought to be MUCH closer to the original paint formula than what we see Stateside. Chat with painters in JOE (jolley olde England) who have worked both sides of the pond indicate the difference(s) may well be REAL--they say they can't use the same guns/nozzles to shoot US sourced version of a given DuPont blend vs. the 'identical' blend purchased/mixed in England.

Remember, much of the 'fuss' about lacquer paint, it's formulation and availability is predicated upon US pollution law enforcement. Once you leave the US, different nations enforce laws differently.... It may well be that our Australian poster is in a unique 'catbird' seat to acquire 'original' paint that's better/cheaper than we can here AND do so in street legal manner.....

From the 1953-72 Corvette Parts Book, your car's original Donnybrook Green paint maps to the following manufacturer by these custom order blend codes:

            Lucite 5133-L
            Ditzler 2200
            Rinshed-Mason A-2267D

If you're having the car painted, your painter ought to be able to pickup these codes and run with 'em. Otherwise, you'll have to contact your local DuPont/Ditzler distributor(s) and find out what it takes to special order a mix run for your needs. PS, buy MORE than you need for the job, spare left-over color can be a real Godsend a few years down the road when there's a 'opps' to fix....

                Re: Use the blend code....

Jack - out of curiousity, can the UK mixed paint be shipped stateside without a huge hassle or tariff? Since I work at IBM, I have a few good friends in Hursley England (down in the Southhampton/Winchester area) and was there once. Maybe that would be taboo, but it would be great to get my hands on some original lacquer for my 67 in Silver Pearl....or my pending 66 purchase in Milano Maroon...Craig

                        Re: Use the blend code....

It is the same in Argentina, I got frustrated asking for the paint codes in PPG or similar distributors in Buenos Aires. They look at me as if I were asking for nuclear plant formulas...The codes are not applicable here, so we end doing paint mixtures to get a matching color. Having a sample color in the car helps a little but color degrades with time. Probably asking for an special mix order following the USA base components may be a solution.
