    Exhaust Manifold painting

I painted my exhaust manifolds with Eastwoods manifold paint. It says that the paint is supposed to cure to the manifolds the first time you run the car for approx. 20 min. When this paint is curing is it supposed to give off smoke? It has been a while, several months, since I last started my car and there was coming from the engine compartment after I started it up, after a couple minutes.

I just want to make sure there are not any problems with my engine, it's just the curing of the paint.

    Thanks
    Ryan

I'm not familiar with the Eastwood product, but most of the exhaust mani paints DO outgas as they cure and once they're thoroughly dry/set-up the outgassing stops....

        Ryan:

The manifold dressing gives off a slight odor, but no visible smoke. Did you check your valve covers for gasket leaks?

There was an odor as well. One I was not familiar with. It did not smell like oil. I will check around the engine compartment tonight. I did not do to much last night after I let everything cool.

            Thanks for the response

I used the Eastwood manifold coating on my '57 four years ago, and it did smoke for a while until it cured; still looks great 5,000 miles later.

I used Eastwood's Stainless Steel high temp paint on my 66 driver and got great looking results. I painted it on, air dried the manifolds and then installed them. When I ran the car, it smoked like crazy for a couple of minutes and then it settled down. It DID stink for a while though, perhaps the first day or so of driving. When I sold the car five years later, it still looked good.

                        Thanks for the response,

I was worried for a minute when it started to smoke. I looked everything over last night and all is well.

                        Thanks Again
