    C1 body dolly

The time has finally come to lift the body from my '62.

Bought the Noland Adams video and workbook dealing with this subject. In the workbook is a construction plan for a C1 body dolly. This dolly doesn't provide support for the rear of the body.

Doesn't the C1 body need support at the rear while resting on the dolly?

    Thanks

I believe it does need support at the back and the front. Many a project goes for years before the body is replaced. I constructed my dolly to support in the same points as the frame. As my dolly was used for almost five years the body survived. Fiberglas will flex and it will crack. Without support in the rear you should never remove the brace you will need to place across the door opening.

The C1 body is an incredibly rigid structure, Mine sat on a dolly for over 2 years with no support under the rear OR front of the body and showed no ill efects. I found it very difficult to work in the engine compartment with the front section on the dolly and finally got tired of removing and replacing it to get in there, so finally just left it off. I just kept a jackstant under the rad support to keep from tipping the car if I leaned on the front too hard. Regards, John

I built a very rudimentary dolly out of some old lumber, and when they came to pick up the body for repair work, they just ignored the dolly and loaded the body on a flatbed for hauling. There was no severe cracking, but it had so many small cracks due to 40 years of road running, that there was no way of determining if any of the damage was because of their lack of a dolly.
