    Proper 73 Alarm Operation

Hi guys... You must know I am getting to the end of the line when I start working on the alarm....

Anyways, as usual, this subsystem is a mess. I know I need a new horn and key switch. However, I did some basic testing to make sure the harness was OK. Orange wire reads 12V. Pink wire reads 12V. Relay clicks inside the car with door open when bridging the Orange and Pink (alarm is active?). When doors are closed, removing one wire clicks the relay once (engaging alarm?). So I am thinking this is working right although I do not hear the flasher clicking. The SM tells me how to change the parts but not how to troubleshoot the system.

Could this be a bad flasher or does the entire circuit need to be complete for the flasher to operate (one of the posts on the horn has disentegrated and that wire is hanging free right now)?

I was also wondering did the lights flash as part of this system or was it just a horn blast? Looking at the 73 SM I can't see where the light system would have worked with the flashers.

I hypothesize that the relay/flasher assembly in the car cycles the horn on and off????

    Thanks in advance ---

    Pat

Yes Pat, the horn must be in the system for the "flasher" to properly operate. It is like the light bulbs burn out and the turn signals do not operate properly. The resistance of the horn puts a load on the flasher.
No lights operate - just the horn.
