Is this cover with the X on it supposed to be black or natural? Thanks Thad

Thad------
I believe that it was painted with the rest of the valve assembly. Some Corvette valves, including many GM SERVICE valves, have a "C" on the cover. Covers with no marking were used for passenger cars.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1970 P/S control valve adjusting cover
Rolf pointed out two of these at his Advanced Judging Seminar for Shark cars in Galveston. One was on a '69 BowTie car and the other was on a '71. Both caps were painted black to match the control valve and the 'X' marks were faint & sloppy white paint/ink. However I did see one control valve in a Corvette shop's re-cycle bin that actually had a crisply wacked 'X' on it cover surface. Can't say if this was factory original or not....
On Joe's comment that some had a different mark ('C'), I think the later era Shark JG books document this ('75 and later?)....- Top
