    Master Cylinder

    This relates to a '68

I guess I'm not seeing something here. Concerning the clevis pin that attaches the rod to the brake peddle. Is there a trick to getting it out? In trying to remove it, it binds with the support for the peddle assembly before it is free of the peddle.

The other side of the equation would be how does the rod connect to the master cylinder? Maybe I don't have to get that pin out to remove the master cylinder.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Mike you do not have to remove the rod attached to the brake pedal in order to remove the brake master cylinder.
Just remove the brake lines and them remove the two bolts that attach the master cylinder to the firewall or to the power brake booster if you have power brakes.
The rod just slips into the brake master cylinder.

        Thanks,

I hate it when I try to make something more complicated than it needs to be.

            Mike,
At least you ask... I wasted valuable time figuring out how to remove the clevis pin and retainer and finally the rod. (push the brake pedal down about 3/4 way and the pin slips out). That was not much fun- the fun comes when you try to insert the pin thru the clevis thru a spring washer thru the brake pedal rod thru the other side of the clevis AND FINALLY insert the retainer. All while holding the brake pedal down AND standing on your head.
I've found the people here will go to extremes to help and provide extremely valuable and timesaving advice- but you have got to ask. As I saw in one NCRS brochure - Why reinvent the wheel?
            Good Luck with your car..

Stay away from removing the clevis, it is a pain to re install. It only comes apart when you re do the poor brake booster unit. Even though you bench bleed the master cylinder, most of us have had to bleed and bleed and bleed the brakes to get decent peddle.
