Purchased my "new" 66 427-425 Yesterday!

Hi - for everyone who was following my thread last weekend on the 66 big block coupe, I closed yesterday on the deal! This car has full ownership records and title search details back to 1971 when Don Johnson sold it...the records from California for it's first 5 years of life are not there. Like many Corvettes, it has had a life of many paint jobs, engine changes etc...it is a NOM car. From every indication I can see, it is a real 425HP car, the unrestored dash has the 80psi guage, 6500 rpm redline, there are no ballast resistor holes in the firewall, there are holes for mounting the TI ignition in the LH front fender, the hood prop is on the LH side with no evidence on the RH side, it does have the rear sway bar present, all the big block halfshaft yoke caps as expected. The frame is totally clear of rust.....absolutely zero evidence of corrosion, poking around everywhere. Even the kickups have the original 2 hole shims present, and appear as if the bolts could even be removed without excessive work...time always tells on that. It also had the original steering box, manual steering, all rear body panels look perfect peering up around the frame and gas tank, I see the original bonding strips present. The wheel well lips do need some work...someone dorked them up by t******* in the past slightly for tire clearance...it has a set of cragar SS wheels with BFG T/A radials in 225/70 R15 size...too big...all that has to go. Since this will be a driver car for the time being (or maybe forever) I think a nice set of repro Ko's would look great. It has a new gas tank, to tire tub/cover, the power antenna is present and works (presently dropped for bodywork). Looking through all the notes on the bodywork done by a local corvette club member, he did extensive paint removal, prep, removal of non stock headlights, did a nice job installing original headlight assemblies (I have 1 motor) all the lines are flawlessly straight on the front for headlight alignment and hood fit looks great too. There is evidence of repair and cut out in the LH front bond seam area right where the fender joins the inner fender asm. Also some evidence of rebonding the surround to the inner fender near the hood prop. RH side body is all original looking with perfect orignal bond seams all the way to the front. I don't see any evidence of any front clip work in front of the hood, no splices etc. The car is in epoxy gray primer nearing readiess for block sanding etc. To me, there is some more work in the wheel well lips and a few other areas first. Apparently at one point, the drivshaft let loose at a U-joint and did some damage in the tunnel area, which he repaired, I honestly couldn't see it readily so he must have done a reasonable repair job. The car is a March 11 car, Milano Maroon with Saddle...the previous owner was going to blue, and I have a new set of interior carpeting and seat covers from Ecklers I will sell on Ebay. The steering wheel plastic is cracked and it needs replacement, the radio is present, and the shifter console surround looks excellent. There is no corrosion on the seat frames (they are apart, foam is hard and shot). Carefull door fitting is complete all door lines and coutours are perfect. Jambs are blue in prep for the body color. The car had been maroon, lime green, brown, was going to be Marina blue, but I will make it Milano again. Bumpers are rough...rust free for the most part but some dents and dings, it is supposed to have a NOS grille but not present and the last owner is going to the repair guy to try and get that plus the other headlight motor....I am not holding my breath. Engine is NOM, I can't find any casting numbers yet which seams strange, the correct 425 casting intake manifold and Holley P/N with correct date is there, the heads down are wrong....I pulled a cover last night and the heads are a matched pair of 840 heads with A27 and A28 dates form 1968....for a 435 car....will function perfectly but have the temp sener boss and tapped, with one good looking "extra" sending unit installed in the LH head but not connected since another is in the intake. Valve covers are a nice set of Camaro/Chevelle units without drippers.....will need to be changed. The original air cleaner and lid are present but the original stichers are shot (big surprise huh). All the fan, pulleys, etc are wrong, but, the original fan shroud is present in great shape, the radiator looks like a correct Harrison but haven't checked closely yet. the rad support looks great. All trim is removed from around the glass, but all present in good shape, all new front bumper mounts from GM restoration parts are in boxes (the front bumper was missing from the car when the last owner bought it, so the front bumper I have(which is the best set compared to rear) is from another car.

This is a real clean original non restored car on it's way back....no evidence the frame has ever been off....exhaust is pure cobbled junk but the exhaust manifolds are correct original castings. Rear valence is in good shape, as are the front runnning lights, but the rear lights need replacement from pitting as do the exhaust bezels.

Oh, did I mention I closed the deal for $14,600? LOTS of room to buy some parts!!!!.....
