Re: Side Pipe Re-Install help please

    John,

I am here looking for the same answer. My retainer was also against the body first, then the side pipe cover. I am having great dificulty trying to get the rocker molding back on without scratching the paint. Sorry I can't help you and I hope someone has an answer for us both.

    Here is the correct scoop.

I guess this ole man did interpet the aim correctly as mine were absolutely installed backwards. I can undersatnd why it was done that way as it looks like you need to do that to get the rocker moulding on. However I re-installed them per the aim. The sequence definitely is Body, rocker moulding retainer, sidepipe cover, rocker moulding. The rocker moulding retainer deep part of the channel goes against the body. The side pipe cover actually rides on the single flange at the bottom of the retainer.

This is the way I installed the rocker moulding and it seemed to work fine -- no scratches. You slide the rocker moulding behind the retainer at the ends and the middle so that it gets started. Next insatll the two screws (slightly snug) that hold the retainer on to properly align it front to back. Then just open the door and tap the rocker moulding down with a rubber mallet. Last tighten up the two screws and voila -- done. The trick was to open the door and tap the moulding down with the rubber mallet after setting the two screws.
