    62 FI another small leak

Well I got my gaskets in the FI unit clean and back on the car and its running good. But I have one question and one leak to pose to you.

    1. The gasket that was leaking bad to start (bottom o-ring held on by the screws towards the front bottom of FI unit) with was replaced by a flat gasket that came in the kit I bought. It really looks like this should be an o-ring. Should it?

    2. I now have a slow leak where the GF-90 screws into the FI unit. It is on pretty strong and since the fitting looks to be brass I dont want to go tighter. Should there be a gasket there? Would I try teflon tape? Any advice?

    Thanks

    Todd.

    1. You definitely should use an o-ring below the spill valve. I doubt a flat gasket will hold for long; the pressure is too high at that point. I'm curious: whose kit contained a flat gasket for this seal?

    2. The danger in overtightening the fuel meter lid inlet fitting is that you will crack the lid. That aluminum lid casting is relatively weak around the threads. I would use teflon paste, not tape, to get a seal.

In my opinion, teflon tape and white lithium grease have created far more automotive problems than they have solved. I cringe every time I read a post that recommends either.

The reason brass fittings leak is because they have been "overused". Brass fittings should always be replaced and not reused. Teflon treatment is a poor solution for a worn out brass fitting.
