The Midyear center cushion (armrest for those with very long femurs) has a beaded edge along 3 sides, with one side having no bead. I have no reference since my car arrived with no cushion, so I must ask, "Does the beaded edge go forward, under the seatbelt retainer clip, or rearward, against the bulkhead?"
Thanks in advance for any information.
Mine isn't in the car right now, but if memory serves, the beading goes around the front. Have you checked the AIM to see if it clearly shows the orientation?
Pad should have a pin on one end. That end goes rearward. If the pin is gone for some reason, then Duke is correct the welting does go toward the front. With the pin gone, however, the back of the pad will have no way to secure itself. The front end,by the way has a flat tab with a hole in it that a bolt goes thru into the trans-hump.I think the bolt is quarter/twenty but head is 3/8.Snuggles up under the back edge of the console. There, all you ever wanted to know about center pad retention!...........Bill S
Got hold of a used cushion mount plate, and bought a new foam "bun" and leather cover. Bulkhead has hole to accept the pin. Seems odd that the nicely finished end with the beading should be hidden under the seatbelt buckle clip--but now I know the proper orientation with which to install the leather.
AIM does not show any detail of the cushion--just location and orientation. I suppose GM wasn't willing to hire graphic artists as well as draftsmen. Come to think of it, the "illustration" of that cushion looks more like a loaf of white bread with a short fuse on one end.
