    63' Bouncing Amp Gauge?

    Bouncing Amp gauge needle,63' Gauge bounces with acceleration. Why and how do I fix it? Thanks!

    Stan:

    The first thing to check is the alternator belt tension. It is possible that there is a slight amount of slippage during RPM transient.If the needle steadies at constant RPM, then it is most likely your belt. Have a helper race the engine (or put the fast idle cam at the top step) and observe the gauge. Belt should have 1/2" deflection midway between pulleys @ proper tension.

      Also, you should check all of the electicial connections including the harness at the fusebox, voltage regulator and alternator, and harness and battery connections to the starter. I wound up having to have the ammeter rebuilt - it was done by Corvette Instrument Service in Palm Beach. Good, quick service.
