    63 Headlight Sag

Hello, I'm sure this been discussed. I don't seem to understand what causes the headlight assembly from moving freely once the lights have been rotated to the closed position. When completely closed, the right side stays locked firmly but the left has play in it and drops down about an inch. The stop screws are up against the bracket. In addition, When I open them up. the left( problem side) rotates much faster then the right. Is it a difficult task to rebuild these assemblys or just purchase new ones? Thank you for advice.

    Lyle,
Check to see if the "Y-Stop" (p/n 3826291) is against its stop. Also check to see if the "Y-Stop screws" (p/n 3827432) are alos present as well as the "Y-Stop attaching bolt" (p/n 121906). While these are 1967 p/ns, their fit and function are the same, your 63 AIM can give you the correct numbers if needed.

If the above listed parts are there and secure, check the headlight bucket pivot screws. There are three on each side of each bucket with room for alignment fudging.

In addition to Don's comments, assuming that the rotation of the buckets on left and right sides is similar in effort, the open/close speed is a function of the internal condition of the headlight motors/gearboxes. A careful rebuild and adjustment can bring then in to spec and you will have smooth operating headlights that open and close in unison....Steve Hack at Eastern Corvettes does outstanding work restoring these motors.....Craig
