bonding fiberglass, right stuff to use?

The factory uses some pink bondo looking (STUFF?) to bond panels together. Like the fenders to cowl and cowl to firewall. What is it and where do we buy it?

What if you had a crack in an outer body panel that was protuding out. HUM.....I know how to deal with that if it were metal. Big hammer! Something tells me that won't work here.

I used a product called FUSOR, mfg by LORD Corp. It worked great. They have many different types for different applications, some for bonding SMC, some for fiberglass, some for metal, some for fillers, etc.

Tim - you should first get a book detailing fiberglass repair techniques...there is one written by Ecklers that has good basics on the process for various types of repairs. I believe it is offered for sale here on the NCRS website if I recall. In addition, there have been many advances in bonding adhesives and materials since the original assembly process years ago, and panel fabrication has chnaged from FRP to SMC, even for replacement panels from GM. Lord Fusor has some very good two part epoxy products out that are easy to work with, and will bond dissimilar materials together such as new panels to old. Spend some time boning up on the various options, it will be well worth it in the long run to prevent problems and the need to repair improper work....Craig

Tim - I see there are books on the NCRS website that are far more complete than the Ecklers book on glass repair....I may order a set!....Craig
