Can someone describe how the fresh air hose is mounted on a 56? I have a bracket that is a 1/2 circle with a tab and hole for a screw. I assume that it goes in the middle of the hose with the screw on the bottom of the hose. The hose will be removable after installing the bracket?
Dave, I am in the process of replacing the bracket on my 56.
Yesterday I removed a mickey mouse bracket installed years
ago.I believe the hole for my bracket is in the wrong location.
Looking in Nolands book page 154 it appears that the bracket
should be mounted screw end down somewhere between the heater
hose brackets.I've E-mailed Jim to see if he could take a
measurement from the hood lip down and a measurement in
relationship to the rear most heater hose bracket when he found the
time. Haven't heard back from him as yet. Perhaps someone else
would know. Rob
Rob,
Your request got shuffled backward due to my being in the middle of installing a top on my '56 (I need it for this weekend). The measurement from the lip of the inner fender down to screw hole is 7 3/4". Because heater brackets can be most anywhere, I chose from the screw going horizontally forward (toward radiator) on the inner fender to the small plane change. At that radius the dimension is 6 1/4." As these heater hoses tend to droop when exposed to exhaust manifold heat, a "trick" is to form a foot or so of chicken wire into a 3 1/2"± tube and slide it inside the back half of the hose. Hope this helps.
Thanks Jim, Very understandable if you are installing your top
you must have finished wrapping the weather strips.
I wish I was there to help you.
I sure would learn alot, my car still needs the top installed.
Hey I know, now that you have a top how about driving down.
we can hit some of those old bone yards.
By the way is the screw #163250 for the fresh air hose bracket a clutch
or a phillips head, and what size? Thanks again Rob
