    '60 carpet installation

I've got a carpet set that came with the car when I bought it, but neither the AIM nor Noland Adams' book go into much detail on HOW to install it. Can anyone point out where I can find some drawings or instructions on how it all fits together, i.e. overlaps, etc?

    thanks

    Matt,

I just installed carpeting in my '61 last week. It's pretty easy. I'm sure a '61 is close to a '60. Remove the seats, sill plates, kick panels, heater cover package tray, and trim. You should have 5 pieces. The first piece to install would be the notched square piece thats located next to the center console door. The notched area fits around the door base. Second, put the piece in that slides behind the radio/clock console. Third, install the center console. This will overlap the two previous pieces. Last are the driver and passenger pieces. They will overlap the 3 previous pieces.

Use a good glue. I recommend brush on over aerosol. Al knoch sells it. Be sure to to install the four screws as well. Two on the drivers side near the gas pedal and two on the passenger side (mirror image of driver side). Refer to your manual for dimensions and locations.

    Hope this helps.

    Greg

Re carpet hold down screws on the firewall.

The placement of these screws, per the AIM, is not exact. It's unlikely you'll ever find the old holes from inside the passenger compartment. Even if you did, it'd be hard to refind them after you put the carpet down. I found mine from the other, engine, side. I put a pin or thin nail through the hole from below and had it protrude into the passenger compartment. Then, after much fiddling around, I was able to use the old hole. BTW, I only found 1 hole on each side at the top. I couldn't find one at the bottom. So, I only put in 1 screw per side.
