No off the line power when hot

I have a baffling problem with my 65. When it is cool, it has plenty of power and you could not ask it to run any better. When it reaches full operating temperature,180-190*, it seems to not have any power off the line. After a second or two, it catches on an runs better but not completely smooth. When you get to highway speed, it has a slight miss but has plenty of reserve power to accelerate quickly even with a miss. This started a while back and the points have been changed to new Pertronix Ignitor electronic ignition and a new 40,00 volt Pertronix coil. Timing has been checked and adjusted to approx.10* and all of this seems to be of no help. After running this way while hot,180*, if it sits for 2 hours or so, it runs greeat till it heats up again. Any suggestions on further troubleshooting or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked to be certain your exhaust manifold heat riser valve is working?

And that the choke is opening fully when the engine warms up?

Checked the operation of the carb accelerator pump?

i have not checked the heat riser but the choke is not working at all but summertime in Florida, it is not needed now. The accelerator pump seems to be working fine, if anything, it may be putting out too much gas because there is a black smoke when it is reved up high.

That could be a clue. Black smoke means rich. Running good on a cold rich mixture, and bad on a hot rich mixture.

I agree that that is a possible cause, but what is the solution. It has a Holley carb

Lots of possibilities. Some that come to mind. Float level, jet sizes, internal modifications, bad power valves. Leaking metering plates.

              Rex:

Sounds like you have the L76 or L79 engine with the Holley 2818-1 carburetor. Do you actually have a 2818 installed? If so, then try lowering the float levels 1/16" below the plug (sight) holes in the bowls. Check your power enrichment valve (on the primary main metering block)--it should be stamped "65", which means that enrichment starts @ 6.5" hg. I would definately replace it with a genuine Holley valve.

              Try www.holley.com for further assistance.
