    65 BB belts

I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE CORRECT ALIGNMENT OF BELTS ON MY 65 BB. IT HAS POWER STEERING. THE SEQUENCE THAT I BELIEVE IS CORRECT IS AS FOLLOWS.

1 ALTERNATOR BELT TO POWER STEERING PUMP.

2 POWER STEERING BELT TO BOTH CRANKSHAFT AND WATERPUMP PULLEY

    3 WATERPUMP PULLEY TO CRANKSHAFT

DOES THIS SOUND CORRECT. IF SO THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT ON # 3

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. ANYONE KNOW WHER I MIGHT FIND A CLEAR PICTURE OF ALL THIS

    THANKS

    FRED

    Fred-----

The belt arrangement that you described is the correct one for a 1965 L-78. You're also correct in that there is no adjustment for the crank-to-water pump belt. This is called a "captured belt" and is common on 60s and 70s Corvette engines.

I think that you can find a diagram or drawing of this in an obscure reference called the 1965 Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual.

      JOE,

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE. I DID CHECK THE ASSEMBLY MANUAL. I FOUND NO CLEAR PICTURE OF THE SETUP.

WONDERING IF ANYONE MIGHT KNOW WHERE THE GM. PART #S FOR EACH BELT MIGHT BE FOUND

First, turn off your caps lock key!!!! In netiquete, capitalization is used to add emphasis. Your posts say you're mader than a wet hen and yelling at all of us....

Second in GM parlance convention, the tracks of pulley groves START at the engine and are numbered outward. Track 1 is closest inside, Track 2 is next, Track 3 is furthest forward.

You say you looked at the AIM but found no clear picture. This CAN'T be.... There's a separate sheet in the rear of the AIM, N40 PS Option Section, that's dedicated to the L78 (396) engine! It's UPC N40, sheet 7.

        It shows:

Track 1 contains GM 3837810 belt connecting crank pulley to water pump pulley.

Track 2 contains GM 3878244 belt connecting crank, water pump & PS (track one) pulleys.

Track 3 contains GM 3878243 belt connecting PS pump (track two) to alternator pulley.
