    Monterey Weather

I asked a Monterey area resident and organizer of one of the Corvette Events about the weather
    >I just had a look at the weather forecast for Monterey and it ranges from highs of 70F and lows of 56F. Will this be what to expect for the Conventions and Historics? This is typical for Monterey, right on the Pacific Ocean. Dress in layers, as it will be cool, and perhaps foggy, in the morning and late evening, at least in some areas. That will burn off, and be sunny and warm from mid morning until sundown.
    It can get windy, also.
Laguna Seca is in a bowl surrounded by hills, and gets very foggy early mornings. I've spent lots of time there getting wind and sun burn, but with my teeth chattering.

      Gary-----

It's very difficult to predict exactly what the weather will be like in Monterey come the dates of the convention. However, it's very likely that it will be similar to what Monterey is experiencing right now. Unless there is an unusual "heat wave" (which is unlikely, but possible in August), the mornings will be overcast and cool, the afternoons sunny with moderate temps (in the 70s)and windy, and the evenings will be overcast, cool, and windy. That's the very regular and predictable weather pattern for Monterey in the summer. I've been going to Monterey regularly since I was 10 years old and I never, at any time, recall being there when it could be considered "hot". But, there's always a first time.

Yesterday, for my birthday, I took a ride with Sara down the California coast between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. This area experiences weather very similar to Monterey (Santa Cruz is at the northern end of Monterey Bay). It was overcast, windy, and quite cool---in the high 50s. When we got to Santa Cruz, it was sunny, quite cool, and windy with temps in the high 60s.

So, unless we get real lucky, the weather is not going to be what many folks are used to for the NCRS Conventions. However, Monterey remains one of the most beautiful areas in the world, so it will be quite worth it. In fact, if the weather happens to be unusually warm, folks won't get the opportunity to experience the real Monterey. That will be unfortunate since the weather is actually part of the experience.

Morning - sweats over shorts and T-shirt or polo shirt

When (if?) the sun comes out - take off the sweats

Evening - summer shirt, long pants and a windbreaker, but bring a sweater too, You might need it.

The above applies to Monterey and the coastal areas. If you go inland - Laguna Seca for example - it will be cool in the morning, but warm to hot in the afternoon.

I agree. I remember shivering in the morning and getting a sunburn in the afternoon!

Was it John Muir or Teddy Rossevelt that said "the coldest winter I ever spent
was a summer in San Francisco (or Moneterey same local).

It was neither. That quote is attributable to one Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain.
