    63 distributor

In a previous post I mentioned that I had a tach drive distributor without a vacuum advance, some electronic piece in place of points, a condensor, and a ballast resistor in the circuit. The engine is a 327 with a Holley 4 Bbl. I have the distributor removed now, and found the following numbers:

"461" raised numbers in the cast body

"1110985 Delco Remy O F 10" on the aluminum strap

Any ideas on what this might be ? Previous replies confirmed that this is not an original 63 setup, mentioned that some 283 2x4 applications had centrifugal advance only, but also mentioned that the ballast resistor is not required with electronic ignition.

    Re: 63 distributor

I had the same distributor in my 63 L76. The 985 distributor is from the 62 340 engine. Mine had dual points and no vac can. I tried to run the distributor with the stock AFB, which which is set up with a vaccum connection. After several tries to mate this dist / carb combo, I gave up and swapped the 985 distributor for the correct distributor with a vac can, with very favorable results.
