I am looking to purchase a carb (3810) for my 67 small block. I was wondering what date code would be acceptable for the carb. The body build date is March 07, the engine block is a b3 and the build date of the car was March 16th or 17th. What is the latest date I could use on the carb.

NCRS and NCCB allow a 6 month "window" prior to build date of the car for most components installed at St. Louis, including carburetors. I don't know if there is a "minimum window", but, obviously, one could not have a carburetor dated the same day as the car's build date. I would look for a carb manufactured in the 2 weeks to 6 months period prior to the car's build. If you were to find a real nice carb manufactured, say, 1 week prior to the car's build, I would not pass it up. I think that it's unlikely that you'll find yourself in this situation, though.

Keith - this has nothing to do with your date code question but I saw in your post that your build date was (I believe) to be the same day as my 67 roadster. Would you mind sharing your VIN number with me? If not I understand. I don't have my information with me but I would be willing to share mine with you if you are interested.

Wasn't the carb installed on the engine prior to delivery to St.Louis, and if so, shouldn't the carb be dated prior to the ENGINE build date?? This will, of course be before the final assembly date, but there could be up to a couple month's gap betwwn engine and final assenbly dates (although I have seen, for 1965 anyway, that 1 to about 10 days seems to be the norm). If there is a large gap between engine and final build dates, then isn't it possible that Keith might buy a carb dated before final assembly but after engine assembly.

If the carb was installed at St. Louis, then this whole issue goes out the window. Please advise.

Sounds good to me - that's the third week of February, fine for a March car.

I don't want to have this sound wrong, but consider contacting your Team Leader. I know that from the surveys they have done, they can likely tell you what date of carb was used on original cars built around the same time as yours. I've done this before and it helps you to know what is "normally" seen rather than what "could be" seen.
