    C2 - N11 date codes?

I recently scrounged an NOS set of N11 exhaust to replace the clamped mufflers/pipes on my '66 BB coupe. I'm writing to inquire if anybody knows if the debossed markings on the mufflers denote specific dates or other pertainent info RE this set of N11. The markings are as follows:

    Left set: PN#

    3845735

    5 1 334 7 A

    Right set: PN#

    3845736

    5 1 146 2 A

    Thanks!

    Dan:

Original mufflers did not have part #'s embossed on them. What you have are service replacement mufflers. Bill #20328

I'm aware that the judging manual states there are no debossed numbers on original N11 mufflers. On the other hand, Noland Adam's book features a picture of N11 with the debossed numbers. I wonder if the no-numbers on the muffler theory is this is gospel or not? It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, but still am curious if the numbers denote some form of date code.

Dan, Looks like a Julian Date where "334" is the 334th day of the year followed by a "7" for the year 67', 77', or 87' etc.The "5 1" may be a part reference.

The 67 manual states an embossed GM and part number is visible on the lower surface of the muffler. This suggests either a change from 66 to 67 or one of the manuals is incorrect.

Dan - Check the Archives. If I remember correctly, there was a thread within the last 6 months. Pete

                Craig-

The N11 (finally) came from Yuma - it's a long, sordid tale. The good news it's in great shape and with a little clean-up is ready to bolt onto the car. Looking fwd to announcing arrivals and departures in the neighborhood via the rumble of the 427 through N11

Hope your project is coming along smoothly.
