I'm looking at an automatic transmission proported to be from a 1955 Corvette. Using Alan Colvin's Corvette by The Numbers book as a guide, I find conflicting information. In the text, 1955 transmissions are described as NOT having mounting bosses on the tailhousing because the shifter was mounted to the floorboard; the three tapped holes beginning in 1956. Four pages later, and also in the corresponding section of Chevrolet by The Numbers (same author), the Special Information relating to 1955 2-speed Powerglides states that the only difference between 1955 passenger car and Corvette Powerglide transmissions was the tailhousing having the three tapped holes. I havn't actually seen the transmission in question, but the owner gave me the casting number from the tailhousing 3708134, which has the holes, and a date code of D295 (April 29, 1955). Can anyone tell me definitively what I'm getting into and how much different a 1955 Powerglide would be from a 1956? Any help would be appreciated. Bernard Myers
