    ???L48 or L82

I have an L48 1975 Corvette BUT the car has an induction hood and seems to have a lot more HP than the 165 HP rated for and L48. Could it be that a previous owner changed the hood and carburetor?

    Any suggestions- thanks, Mike

All 1975 cars had the induction hood. This feature was discontinued in 1976.

It's very possible that someone changed carburetors, but this (in isolation) would make very little positive difference in performance. Are you sure that the engine is internally stock?

      Check your VIN

Starting in '72 the engine type was coded into the VIN. For '75 the fifth digit tells the engine, "J" = L48, "T" = L82. That will tell you what the car came with, but not what is in it now. Post the numbers from the block stamp pad (machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head) and we can tell you what the engine is.
