    Muffler Black Out question

I have purchased repro mufflers for my 72. I thought the back of the mufflers and the underside were Blacked Out from the factory.I have searched the archives and can not come up with a answer. It looks like some Hi temp flat black paint is in order. What is the scoop on Black Out paint.

    Bill -

Factory photos at Body Drop show '68 mufflers blacked out, no blackout at all on '77 mufflers; don't know about 72's; does the TM&JG say anything about it?

Yes, The Judging manual says that the factory mufflers are blacked out. It does not however say where (back and underneath) or with what (Flat Black or low gloss black). I am looking for those specifics. The judging manual is very spceific in some areas and less so in others. Any help I can get will be appreciated.

How about as specific as a photograph. See The Corvette Restorer Volume 27, Number 1, Summer 2000, page 39. Story and photos by Bob Cook.

Thanks, I forgot about that issue. I will have to remember this in the future.

            Bill,
I am pretty sure that this was a thread of discussion in the last couple of months on this board. Folks got into the type of paint and a lot more details, but I don't know why you didn't find it on your archive search.
            Good luck
            Terry

              Terry,

The Archives start one month ago, and it was less than a month. If he changed his NCRS preferences, he'd likely find it, but have to wade through a month's postings.

Ah the Dr. to the rescue. I should have known it was too new for the archives - I remembered it. Thanks Patrick.

It's July 3. I changed my preferences to 1 month of posts and found it.
