    C5 Service Column Lock

My 99 Gives me a SERVICE COLUMN LOCK message.
It starts and then I get a message that says
PULL KEY - WAIT 10 SEC It won't let you drive it.
The Manual says have it towed to a dealer.
I am hoping somebody has a better suggestion.

take it to the dealer as there is a TSB for the fix. aftermarket people also sell a bypass you can install your self. go over to the corvetteforum or corvetteactioncenter and do a search.

As this has happened to quite a few C5s it is best to take it to the dealer for the fix. It only takes a few minutes. It disables the Column from locking, period. If it happens to you there are a couple methods to release it posted on the C5 Registry. One being, "While turning the steering wheel hard to the right and left while turning on the key to activate the solinoid."

        Re: C5 Service Column Lock

I read all of the posts I could find everywhere. It's very common. I tried
wiggle and turn the wheel. I tried removing fuse 25 and 29. It was suggested that I close the doors and unhook the battery for five minutes. Before I tried
that it finally started without the lock message. I only did one thing before
the last successful effort - I turned the radio off. I don't think that was
relative to anything. Anybody else in the same situation will try ANYTHING.

Once again, thank you for the kindness and efforts of the people who take the time to respond to somebody that needs help.
