When I was back at Bloomington this year, I noted that "reproduction" upper control arm bushings with the rubber "extensions" as originally used for all 1963-72 Corvettes are now available. Volunteer Vette Products had them for sale for, as I recall, $10 each. I examined these closely and they are perfect; they could not be told from the originals save for the fact that the "Harris" brand-name seen on some originals was not there. When installed on the car, this is absolutely impossible for anyone to discern, anyway. Plus, I'm not sure that it was on all originals, either. The original lower bushings remain available from GM and all of the Corvette vendors and are exactly as original. From the vendors these sell for about $3-5 each. Much more from GM but the parts, in THIS case, are exactly the same from GM or the vendors. So, one could obtain a complete set of bushings for about $60 and have exact original configuration all the way around. If Volunteer Vette has them now, I would expect that all the other vendors, including folks like Dr. Rebuild, will have the original-configuration upper bushings soon, too.
I just noticed that someone paid $153.85 on eBay for a set of front contol arm bushings which included the upper bushings with the rubber "extensions". It just amazes me how folks will pay absurd prices for "trendy and fadish" items like these upper control bushings. Considering what I described above, they're not too good of a buy anymore at these prices, are they?
