I put a tilt tele wheel in my 74 and thought I had all the pieces fitted in correctly. However, you need to turn the wheel about a turn to the left and a turn and a half to the right before it will cancell itself. Do I need a new cam or did I put it in wrong? Thanks, Ray

Re: directional cancelling cam
I don't know if it's the same on 74's as C-1's but you must make sure that the steering wheel is aligned properly with the wheel shaft. Otherwise you'll have no end of problems with turn signals. I had to adjust mine several times to get the turn signal cancelling to work properly.

Re: directional cancelling cam
Ray, I just had this same problem on my 72 with tilt/tele. I had taken the steering column apart to tighten up some screws in the tilt head and when I reinstalled everything I made one mistake. There is a plastic "dohickey" that looks and acts like a u-joint for the tilt head. If it is installed 180 degrees out, you will get this problem. If you want to see the parts breakdown, go to www.corvettefaq.com and check out Jim Shea's great articles on steering columns. He is a retired engineer with Saginaw.
Once you get to know how the parts all go together, you can do this repair in about an hour. Take you time, note the orientation of the parts and take digital photos as you go through each successive layer.
