I have a 1/4 inch gap between the upper windshield channel and the glass. I asked a professional to correct it and he stated that he could not because the windshield post was bent ... it is nearly 5/8 inch higher that the drivers side post. I don't know HOW it could have been bent, so I assume that there is some form of adjustment, or I installed the windshield incorrectly. Can anyone help? Paul

Re: Windshield post-59
Hi Paul. I'm not a windshield expert, but I have replaced a couple of C1 windshields over the years. I was planning to start replacing the windshield on my 62 tonight, but don't have the energy to get started.
I don't think there's any way to bend a side post. Break it, yes. Bend, no way. From your description, the only thing I can think of is that perhaps the glass and gasket are not fully seated in the side post, causing the upper end of the side post to be raised and "bent" outward. Do you have the means to email a picture of the problem? If so, I'll be happy to take a look and see if I can offer any advise.- Top

Re: Windshield post-59
Paul, I agree with Ed. I just finished the major chore of re-installing my windshield after having one of the posts modified to replace the missing tab. I can tell you for sure, that hunk of pot metal will not bend. In addition to checking Ed's suggestion of the gasket not being fully seated around the windsheild and into the posts, look at the number of stakable rubber gaskets under the posts on each side. Does one side have one or none and the other side have six or seven layers?- Top

Re: Windshield post-59
Another thing Paul. I had the same issues when I was putting my windshield back together. Getting the rubber gasket seated completely around the glass and having it stay there while I got the upper and lower windshield frames and side posts in place was a monumental chore. It took me several days and many six packs to finally gain enough patience to get it done. It has to be done in the exact order described in the service manual.
I suggest you remove the windshield and go by the procedure in the service manual. I doubt seriously that your problem is the posts.- Top
