    '63 Steering damper/bracket removal

The steering damper bracket was apparently repalaced at some time, and upon reinstallation, someone used nuts only instead of the retainer plates to fasten it. Access to the nuts is thru a hole in the frame. and I can get a small socket on the two inside nuts for back up, but I can't get the right angle to get onto the outside two. Any suggestions other than trying to grind off the heads of the bolts?

Also, the damper is bolted to the bracket, with the nut inside the bracket. There is not enough clearence to get either a socket or a wrench on the nut. Anyone been down this road?

If you can't turn the bracket nuts, or the heads, I think I'd drill through the center of the heads, using progressively larger bits until the heads fall off.

      Steve-----

And when you get them out, put it back together the right way and install 2 GM #14011278 reinforcements (with studs). The "arrangement" that you described is what some klutz used as a substitute for the proper parts.
