Can someone tell me if in 63, there was a black exterior with a saddle tan interior? And if so, where did the black stop and the tan start. the door jams must of been black, I've decided to paint the exterior on my 63 black, the original was saddle tan inside and out. If there is a right way can someone help me.

Re: 63 Paint
According to the Corvette Black Book a 63 Corvette with black exterior could have the following interior colors:
Black Red Saddle.
My 63 has a black exterior and a saddle interior. I think it's a sharp combination. The door openings are black. I believe the dash mounting tab which is in the door opening should be painted the same color as the exterior of the car. At least thats the way I did it.- Top

Re: 63 Paint
And something else to consider in a broader sense regarding interior/exterior color combinations. In the old days of long option lists and manufacturer tolerance (not just Chevrolet), it would be possible to order unusual color combinations if you were willing to put down a large enough non-refundable depost. For instance, good taste not being an issue, you could have a red exterior and a blue interior from the factory. You can understand the need for the deposit as a dealer would have a devil of a time moving a car like this off the lot if you arrived at a "what was I thinking" moment. Essentially it wasn't too difficult to get a car in whatever paint and interior was offered for that car on the production line. Much of the sales literature burried this in terms like "recommended" interior colors, rather than take it or leave it as we have it today. Now if you wanted an exterior color that wasn't offered from the line, then you had to do a COPO.- Top

Alive Today!
Last summer, members of our chapter from England came to make the trek to Galveston with us on the National Road Tour. Mike had sold his '61 and contemplating either buying another classic Corvette to restore/maintain or ordering a fresh/new C5 for UK import.
He wanted a US sales brochure as he believed the UK version of literature is 'abbreviated' -- emphasize cosmetics and de-emphasize options/specs. He got one from a Denver Chevy dealer.
Back home in JOE (Jolley Olde England), Mike 'dreamed up' the notion of a 3-tone car; Torch red interior, Electron blue exterior and white soft top. The UK dealers told him, catagorically, this couldn't be done! Mike read the fine print in his US sales brochure that essentially said color combinations were recommended but any production series of colors could be had.
Hum, this stirred things up and dealership folks had to work their way back through channels to the States for an answer. Bottom line: "Yes sir, you CAN have it your way".
The car was ordered, built, shipped and was one of the LAST Corvettes exported to the UK (Chevy has decided to withdraw Corvetted from sales distribution in the UK....). When the car arrived, another 'funny' was noticed. The brake calipers were Z-06 format--bright red showing through the wheel spokes. Letters and inquiries confirmed this IS/WAS the way Bowling Green built the car...
Some call it a 'Union Jack' color combo while others say it's the American Flag. Doesn't much matter, Mike LOVES his new Corvette and is proud to put it on the UK highways and take to show 'n shine meets. It's UNIQUE....- Top
