Re: C1, Modified or Mutilated?
I don't think there is any doubt that there are more old Corvettes today with "orignal" engines than there were when they were 10 years old. If having every number perfect is what's important to you , great. I love to look at the perfect cars. I also love the survivors that can be documented as real originals even if they have a few flaws. Considering how most Corvettes were used when they were new there has to be a lot of original looking cars out there with non-original mechanicals. The Sportsman program is an excellent place to show your car.
With the trend in Hot Rod and other shows being away from competiton for trophys and awards and towards a more laid back type of meet we should all be bringing out our drivers and less than original cars. I would like to see the meet organizers scrambling for more space due to the vast turnout of Sportsman cars. That way when you get tired of talking about numbers and proper finishes in one area you can walk over to the other and talk about head swaps, brake upgrades, crate engines and even Richmond 6 Speeds. Sounds like fun to me.
