C2 headlight problem

Hello,

I have a 66' with a drivers side headlight problem. At first the light would not rotate unless the wheel on the motor was turned manualy a turn or so and then it would work with the switch as normal. Now after closing the lights with the switch the bucket turns freely and will not open with the motor. When it turned freely the first time it sounded as though there was a piece loose and rattleing around. Any ideas as to what this might be and how to fix it? If I drive the car like this will the wind flip the headlight open?

Sounds like you may have a couple of problems. One the gear is probably bad causing it to bind, thus having to turn manually to start. The motor may need some service to restore its torque. Second, It sounds like the motor actually fell off the shaft allowing you to turn the bucket without resistance. Only you can tell though. You will have to look under there to see if it is in its proper position.

I agree with the previous post. You might want to remove the motor open it up check out the aluminum gear which typically wears. You can replace the gear or try rotating it 180 degrees to get away from the worn spot. Clean out the old lube. Put in some fresh white grease. It should work properly.

Thanks for the help! I have sent both motors out for restoration and hope to have them back in the car and working soon.
