    VIN numbers

I have a "62" that I purchased in 1973 and am now starting some restoration on. Prior to my owning the car someone removed the tag that is supposed to be on the steering column of a 1962 showing the VIN number, and had it renumbered in the state of CA. with a stick-on tag on the drivers side door post.
My question is, are there numbers anywhere else on the car that would indicate the "birthdate" of this car. I know the numbers on the engine block and heads are correct for a 1962, but would like to know more about it's origin if possible.
    Thanks,

    Lonnie

    Re: VIN numbers

There should be a VIN stamp on the top side of the outer frame rail under the drivers seat. It's difficult to see with the body on, there is only about an inch of space between the top of the frame rail and the floor board, but it can be done with a mirror.

O.K. Mark, Thanks, I'll try looking there.
