1981 manual trans identification

If I'm reading the spec book correctly my trany should have my VIN # on it. I don't see didley. In fact Bo Diddley had more hits than my trany has numbers.

I can only find a case casting # 1304065903. side cover has a some what stamped #13-04-007-901 ( the 13 is real hard to read and the second digit in 007 could be a 9)

Does the lack of a VIN number mean it's a replacement? The book say "hidden number". Man they hid it pretty darn good!

Any thoughts on what's up?

Your main case and side cover numbers are correct (the second digit is indeed a "9") - your tailhousing should be 13.04.066.905. You'll find the build date code for the transmission and the car's VIN derivative stamped vertically on the machined surface just rearward of the rear edge of the side cover.

That is the tail housing number too.

The pad where it SHOULD be is as as bald as my wife's ..........well it's just not there! Nor is it on the top outcropping where some other models might be marked.

Is Superman in the house? Maybe he can read it?

Seriously, did things like this happen? Did Bob forgot to stamp it before he put it in?

If so can we find out who was working the line in march 81 at the St Louis plant? I think we should call him/her and tell them what a louzy job they did. I guess they got what they deserved since the plant moved to Bowling Green.
Ah that's what it was, He knew he was getting canned anyway so what the heck did he care.
