81 windshield and piller waterproofing

The only two 81 cars I've worked on seem to have backyard waterproofing on the windshield. This seems to indicate to the unknowing (me) that those cars may have leak issues if not done right?

Any headsup on the reinstall of piller post and or windshield to help insure leakfree performance would be appreciated.

Can we use leakproof and Corvette in the same sentence?
