Most of the C1 resto parts houses have the ball-bearing version, from BCA (Bearing Corp. of America), #RW-607-NR, made by Federal-Mogul; however, they require some rework before installation. Do a search for a thread called "Confusion In The Ranks" from February 9, 2002 for details.- Top

Who has had the RW-607NR bearings fail ?
Who has had the RW-607NR bearings fail? How do you know when they are starting to fail. I installed a set over 4,000 miles ago and got scared because of these threads. I took one side out to inspect it and all looked/felt fine. How can you tell when they may fail? Please let me know.
From what I understand about the issue it is said to take the inner seal out of the new bearing so the gear oil can lubricate it? If I do that do I need to over fill the rear because when I removed the axle no oil came out. Or when the axles spin does that move the lube out to the bearing? The fluid level was not low.
Please, I would like to hear more about this. My email is awilco@hotmail.com.

Re: Who has had the RW-607NR bearings fail ?
I have had two sets fail and have repaired C1 Corvettes on several occasions for others who had similar problems.
Failure is unlikeliy for trailer queens. Only Corvettes driven 20,000 miles or more are subject to failure. Differential oil will be observed leaking from the end of the axle housing and usually onto the brake shoes. The oil level in the differential will fall.
One need only look at ORIGINAL UNMOLESTED bearings (either roller or ball) to observe the correct configuration as manufactured.
