I am having a real tough time reinstalling the glass in my windshield frame. In particular, the w/s gasket doesnt want to seat in the lower channel very well, and when it's installed the gasket seems too loose on the glass. The gasket came from Corvette Rubber. The new gasket is noticeably wider than the original, but the original is dried up and hard as a brick, so I'm not sure that means anything. I have tapped the lower channel/trim assy on with a rubber hammer, and I'm reluctant to get much rougher with it, especially in light of all the recent posts from those who have broken windshields during installation! Any comments or suggestions?

Re: C1 windshield install
Ed,
The w/s strip doesn't want to sit in the channel and the glass is loose in the weatherstrip? I'm guessing you are using the mallet to get the weatherstrip into the channel while it is around the windshield? I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Last year I installed a Corvette Rubber weatherstrip around the windshield. Don't recall running into any particular difficulties (other than making darn sure the weatherstrip was exactly centered on the centerline of the windshield). I used liquid soap in all channels to reduce the fit frictions. Regards,- Top

Re: C1 windshield install
Jim, I think I've found the problem. There was some residue from the non-hardning sealer which the factory used still on the s/s trim piece where the gasket has to slide. The stuff was still real durn sticky, and I suspect the gasket just wouldn't slide over it. I cleaned it real good with some lacquer thinner and now everything seems to go together much better.- Top
