    Quadjet Carb #7040502

I picked up a box of parts and included was a quadjet carb # 7040502 dates 0846. On the side of the box it is written "Off of 70 Corvette". Now if the number is correct, then the date must be 76 and a repalcement. Any assistance would be appreciated.

My Rochester reference shows the 7040502 as fitting 1970 full-size Chevrolets, Chevelles, Novas, Camaros, and Corvettes from California with an auto trans. There is also an additional column for Corvettes only which show 7040207 (Federal) and 7040507 (California).

The NCRS spec guide shows all three numbers as being on a 1970 Corvette.

Here's where I myself could use some help. The first edition spec guide states that Q-Jet date codes haven't been figured out yet. However, the second edition states that the date code is Julian. So obviously your carb was made on the 846th day of 1970! Ha! Just kidding. Can anyone else help with the date code?

Replacement made near the end of March, 1976 (084 = julian date, 6 = year).

Others are giving you correct input on application for carb ('70 car with NA9 California Emissions). As for date code info, you need to make sure you're reading the pad correctly....

There were two sources for Q-Jets back them (GM/Rochester and Carter). The GM Rochester carbs used a Julian dating sequence XXXY where XXX = day of year any Y = last digit of year. Carter, as a second source to Rochester, will have an identifying emboss on the main housing indicating Carter as the manufacturer. The ID pad will have a mixture of alpha/numerics to identify the carb and you 'might' be confusing alpha codes for numbers....
