C1 1960 Door Panel Asm and Window Crank

I'm preparing to assemble my new Al Knoch door panels to my 60. The previous were of a "custom" variety, so the assembly and mounting weren't correct. A couple of questions for those that have done this before.

The door panels have the hole for the window crank cut out in the backer board, but not in the trim metal. I assume this is to allow me to make the cutout for best location to the crank shaft (big assumption), or do I simply cut it out to the same diameter as the hole in the backer board. What's the best method of cutting that trim material without distorting it? I also have to make the cut in the vinyl for the door lock shaft.

Please let me know if there's a subtle, but significant point that I may be missing in regards to these not being precut from Al Knoch before I screw them up.

Also, regarding the assembly of the spring and assembly for the door crank: I received one plastic "backer/support" washer to assemble with the crank spring. In the AIM it appears that there may be one located on each side of the spring. Can anyone advise?

Thanks as usual... the complete restoration of my interior including windshield is nearing completion thanks to the excellent NCRS resources.

Some C1 Corvettes were built with power windows therefore the door panels were not cut. I use a pointed Exacto knife to cut a circle just large enough to acvcomodate the shaft of the wondow crank.

Two "backer-supports" were used with the spring.

        P.S.

Make sure you use the ORIGINAL door release estucheon and reflectors. The reproductions sold by everyone are not like the originals and are easily detectable in the eyes of an experienced judge.

Don't trust the location of the cutout markings on the back. Carefully mark your own. I have power windows and the rectangular cutout was not even going the right direction. (The circle would be hard to orient wrong!)
