Q-Jet

Just purchased a Edelbrock replacement Q-Jet for my 71/454. Old carb was a mixture of different variations of Q-Jets and vacuum ports did not match those of the current Edelbrock 4MV. Have looked in the AIM, Chiltons, Rochester Rebuild Manual, GM Service Manual and anyplace else I can think of and cannot clearly identify which vacuum ports are which. Could someone name a specific manual, website, etc. that could help me locate the correct hoses onto the correct vacum fittings. Did not receive any manual with the carb, assume this was because it's a rebuild.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy -

Connect a hose to each port and blow into them - if air comes out below the closed throttle plate, it's manifold vacuum; if air comes out above the closed throttle plate, it's "ported" vacuum.

1 check edelbrock website for manual,2 make sure the choke is open when you use the above because the butterflys will be open because of the fast idle cam, and could give you a false reading.

Andy,

1. Check MF Dobbins' book. If you don't have one, let me know via e-mail and I can send you the connections.

2. Check the Dr. Rebuild catalog. Odds are, the connections he has shown are correct. Remember, he's online at www.docrebuild.com. Actually, I'd just order the kits you need from him to start fresh.

3. Let me know if you can't do the above.
