C2 rear adjusting cam bolt question for Joe Lucia

    Joe,
Per your thread regarding this subject dtd. 6-4-02 you have NOS
examples of GM #3820253 which are Black Phosphated with an "M" headmark.
Do any or all of these have hash marks? The originals on my 63 have
    both.
However, a friend has a 64 with originals that both have an "M"
but only one has the hash marks. Your input would be helpful as usual.

    Regards,
    Don 31553

Re: C2 rear adjusting cam bolt question for Joe Lu

    Don-----

I have several NOS examples of the GM #3820253. All have the "hash marks" on the cam (used as reference points for camber adjustment). I have never seen one of these cam assemblies or the later GM #458979 cam assemblies which did not have the "hash Marks" on the cam.

Keep in mind that the cam used on the other side of the cam bolt (the rear side) is a SEPERATE part. This cam, GM #3790331, has a "D" shaped hole in it to key to the flat spot on the bolt. The cam which is part of the cam bolt assembly has a completely round hole to fit on the round section of the bolt.

The GM #3790331 cam DOES NOT have "hash marks". If the cam assembly was reversed, it would appear that there was no "hash Marks" on the cam. The proper orientation is with the bolt head and cam with "hash marks" facing toward the FRONT of the car. The cam without "hash marks" and the nut should face the REAR of the car.
