    607 BEARING

Does anyone know where I can buy a RW607N rear axel bearing for my 1961 corvette? I have contacted Federal Mogul who makes the bearing and they will not sell it to me. Thanks, Joe

    Re: 607 BEARING

Joe, In my part of the country they can be bought at any auto parts store. Autozone carries them for about $51 each. Make shure you read the acchives on how to modify them so that will provide long life. Regards, John McGraw

Joe D&D Antique Bearing has them for 45 pair

      Joe,

D&D Antique Auto Parts just replied to my email.

The price is $45.00 for the pair + $7.00 shipping. If
you want insurance, add another $1.30. The same ones are used for posi, as
well as non-posi traction rear axles.

      Email is ddautoparts@mindspring.com

      Hope this helps

        Whoa!

According to Dale, a posi uses roller bearings and non-posi's use ball bearings.

          Re: Whoa!

Bob, That is correct, posi rearends were originally equiped with rollers but the supply has dried up long time ago! You would have to be real serious about originality to spend what it would cost to buy a NOS set!
The ball bearings are the only bearings being produced today and are now used to replace all rear axle bearings. The roller bearing was a bearing which could take a much higher radial loading due to the larger contact area of the rollers to the race. In actual use short of the race track, I would doubt that you would ever see a difference in life. And that $45 per pair price is an incredible price if they are quality bearings! I thought that I had stumbled on a gold mine when I found them at my local Autozone for $50 each as I had been paying $65 each from another local supplier for quite a while.

          Regards, John McGraw

              Re: Whoa!

John, you are right about the price. I finally had to pay $80 for the ones I found at an auto supply wholesaler. Autozone quoted me the same price. The 603's were a little cheaper but they are for a '57. My '60 model requires the 607 bearings.

                  Re: Whoa! They Won't Work

The oil seals are in backwards!..........These bearings are made for a machine lathe...............All the suppliers sell tham anyway with NO warning!

                    CHEAP IS DEAR

when it comes to bearings. It's not much fun to watch people replace bearings over and over every two years. Why not do it right the first time even though it costs more? In the end you'll save money and enjoy the safety that comes with quality parts!
