    Re: WONDER RADIO PARTS

It will get you a considerable hit in the Operations section of the flight judging process, Likely about 12 points (half of 25)

      Re: WONDER RADIO PARTS

Wonderbar tuner parts (treadle solenoid, Etc.) have LONG been GM discontinued. You have to go to a Wonderbar repair specialist (see Services section of Driveline) and most won't sell discrete parts without doing a complete bench restoration of the radio....

However, if you're clever and have appropriate Delco Remy Radio service manuals, you'll find the individual parts for your set are common to other forms of Wonderbar radio (Cadillac, Buick, Etc.), these sets can still be found in scrap yards and purchased as 'cores' for reasonable prices and serve as 'donor' parts sources. This is essentially how those who provide restoration services acquire their service spare components.

If the seek relay(s) are burned up, your set most likely suffered the 'typical' Wonderbar syndrome.... The seek function is almost all a mechanical system (swiss watch like) with start & stop being electromechanically controlled.

When the set wears and sliding friction increases, all kinds of 'funnies' begin. The worst of the lot is 'infinite' seek.... The solenoids were never designed for 100% duty cycle and they'll smoke/burn pretty quickly.

      The 'syndrome' is:

      (1) Set was acting funny and stopped working.

      (2) I found the 7.5 amp fuse in the main junction box had popped.

      (3) I replaced it and the radio worked again, but after a while the replacement fuse popped.

      (4) I finally got 'clever' and changed the fuse to a higher rating (10-20 amp) and things worked again.

      (5) Finally, there was smoke and the radio died.....

The 7.5 amp main fuse in the junction box IS the Wonderbar radio's ONLY safety proviso. If the set is continuously popping this fuse, it's telling you it's time to remove the radio and R&R the insides. Bumping the rating of the fuse is how we come to find 'bargain' Wonderbar radios at swap meets, on eBay, Etc.... Prior owners got 'smart', saved a repair/maintenance cycle and turned a rare original radio to toast!
