    block

hello, can anyone tell me whether an engine with casting number 3782870
was used only for 62-65 corvettes, or were there other applications?
i asked earlier about a NOM 66 corvette with this block. it seems the suffix
"matches" the vin even though the block is incorrect. if the rest of the car
performs well, should i be concerned about purchasing this vehicle with an
obviously doctored pad number? thanks in advance.

    Re: block

The 870 block was used for all 327 CID engines from '63 to '65 including those used in Chevrolet passenger cars. Both the Pax car and Corvette 250 and 300 HP 327s were essentially the same engine, and the Corvette SHP and FI engines used the same block casting.

Seems odd that someone would restamp an incorrect block casting. The 870 block casting was not used in '66.

John, Looking at these cars can be very confussing. Can't you find an experianced NCRS member/judge to go look at this car with you? It will save you alot of grief!

        Re: block

Although it apparently was not a common practice, some dealerships "stamped" replacement engines with the VIN of the car they were going into. This may be one of those situations.

How do the date codes, etc. on the engine match up with the car's build date?
Do the date codes on the engine fall within the warranty period for the car?
