The reproduction battery in my 56 has finally given up. I bought it from Restoration Battery in March, 95. I went to a local Delco dealer this morning to try to find something to replace it and they couldn't find a current product that would physically fit properly. The original style 2SMR53 case is 10-1/4 x 6-3/4. The size 24 they tried to sell me is 10-3/4 long and won't fit in the tray. I'd like to stay with Delco. What are the rest of you using? If all else fails, I'll buy another repro. It gave me good service, It's just a hassle to it have shipped and filled, and until I get something, the car sits.

I installed an ACDelco Professional 24-5YR in my '61 "driver" and have been very pleased with it. Cost was $65 - $70. -

I'm currently using a Delco 60 Freedom Battery in my '56. Its a 24-60 model and fits fine. I purchased it in 1996 so it probably is not a current model. FYI it's still going 1 year after warranty expired.

I appreciate the responses. Still, I've removed the reproduction battery and the inside of my tray simply won't accomodate a 10-3/4 inch long battery, which is what the literature for a group 24 battery indicates is it's size. I may very well end up with a group 24 battery and somehow raise it above the rim of the tray. I've got one other alternative I want to persue first. I'll let you know how that works out.Comment
