Hello All,
I have another post on one of the Corvette forums about an engine I have. Several of the members here have been very helpful, so now I'm confused...
Anyway,
I have a 427 and Muncie that is out of a 1968 "L88 Vette".
I am somewhat confused as to what the L88 option was on the Vettes.
I'm more familiar with the other Chevy musclecars. I thought the L88 was the iron headed 435 hp 427, the L89 was the aluminum version.
Is this correct or are both the L88 and L89 aluminum head motors, and is this in all GM musclecars or Vettes only.
The motor I have is a 3916321 block casting with a engine suffix code of T1024IR.
What do your reference materials say this is?
Mine (not the greatest) say it is a 1968 427 with manual trans SHP.
Does it get any more specific?
The heads are 840 castings.
With a date of H247, Aug 24, 1967, seems to be an early '689 production motor right?
So what is it? L71 or L88?
One of the members here said it was not an L88 and should have came with a tri-power setup.
This seems confusing too as it has a aluminum Winters intake that is supposed to be original but I haven't looked at the dates or casting on it to check. Its all in storage and my flashlight quit on me.
I've determined the trans is not original so it is not important anyway, but I was trying to mate this engine with its original car.
Thanks in advance.
Jake
