just noticed that the carpet(black) in my 66 roadster is fading but only the front passenger and driver side sections. is there a dye to recolor this while the carpet is left in place or does the carpet need to be replaced. if it needs to be replaced can the two sections i need be replaced or do i need to buy a whole replacement carpet set? thanks, joe tassoni

Re: 66 carpet
Joe,
------It is a fact that these reproduction carpets will fade easily.Usually the black sets tend to get sort of gold on top after exposure to sunlight.Ive been told that the plants that actually run the carpet cannot use some of the same ingredients that used to be used due to more stringent government regulations.Longevity is compromised as a result.Since you dont have much to lose try some Rit dye as a sort of carpet shampoo.Remove the seats for uniformity during the application.Ive had really good luck with this approach, and since its extremely cheap, its worth a try!.........Bill S- Top

Re: 66 carpet
Joe,
As an alternative to removing the carpets and using a liquid dye, I suggest going to your local AutoZone and buying a spray can of gloss black vinyl dye. Just clean the carpets real good and allow to dry fully. Mist in a couple of coats, then use a very stiff brush and brush it into the nap of the carpet. Then mist in a couple more coats of dye. Spray it in from different directions if possible. Good luck.
