    1967 Windshield Washer Pump

I had my original wiper motor and pump restored. The wipers work fine, but I have not been able to get the washer to work. It appears to engage when I turn it on, but no water through the pump. Does the pump need to be primed? Thanks Jim carmain #37003

It may take a few cycles of the washer pump to get the tubing filled up....If that doesn't work then you may want to try priming with a cooking syringe (if your wife will let it out of the kitchen) and a short hose in place of the reservoir hose. You also may want to insure that the pump is assembled correctly.

Prime the pump with DISTILLED Water.

        Jim:

When I rebuilt mine, it didn't need to be primed. See my reply to Jerry Coia, above.

Jim, a few suggestions. I also just restored the whole unit. While priming might not be necessary it cannot hurt. First, make sure all the hoses and nozzles are clear and you can get water through to the windshield. Second, prime the pump, by this I mean get water all the way to the pump. You may want to make sure water was in the pump itself. Lift the water reservoir up and set it on the fender, start a siphon, let water run through the hose and then attached it to the pump inlet. To go one step further, after attaching it force water into the pump till it exits the outlet lines. Attach the outline lines which you already tested above and know are clear. Should work from here. Good Luck.
