I have a 62 that has sat for 10-15 years. The oil in the engine block is almost completely solid. Any reccomendations for the best way to clean this mess out? My son thinks we should send the block and heads to a machine shop to bake the stuff out. Thanks for the advice.

Re: C-1 Engine oil sludge
You can nurse it back to health without removing the engine. Kerosene and lacquer thinner added and left to work a few weeks will loosen the sludge. After draining throughly and changing the filter, add light weight oil and a quart of a Castrol product designed to rid engines of sludge. I've forgotten the name of the product but it's widely used.
Change oil repeatedly with new filters and the Castrol product until the oil clears up.
The RIGHT way to fix the problem however is to send the engine out for a rebuild. (which would probably take less time than flushing it in the car.)
