    Decode Carb. on my 71

My 1971 has a Rochester carb on it.I would like to determine if it is original or a replacement.
    7041206
Here is what I have found
    70
    4 - 1970-75
    1 - 71
    2 - Quadrajet (4 bbl)
    0 - Division. 0, 1, and 2 all indicate Chevrolet
    6 - Automatic

The judging manual calls for a 7041212
Is there any way this couls be incorrect? What car did my carb come off of?
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    RA

Not that I am aware of. It is available in repair and interchange manuals, as well as old sales catalogs.

Re: Decode Carb. on my 71 (additional info needed)

Thanks, you were unclear, is the carb from a pickup? CHEVY or GMC?
Need to record this in my fact book for the car.

Both Chevy and GMC pickups and vans used the same engine packages, so it is not possible to determine which.

                Ralph:

My Rochester info states about the same as what Bill Clupper was telling you. My book states that carb 7041206 came on 1971 20 and 30 series pickups (3/4 and 1 ton, not 1/2 ton) with a 402 engine. It doesn't say whether that was a big block or small block 402. Oddly, my book lists 68 thru 73 as Chevrolet, while 73 and 74 are listed as "Chevrolet and GMC." Since there is no specific info for 68-73 GMC, I'll assume that the 71 info applies to both truck lines.

Thanks for the breakdown of the Rochester code. You taught ME something!

BTW, the same book shows 7041212 as a Corvette with auto trans.
